The Hustle gets opened because their subject lines do one thing really well:
They make you feel like you're missing out on gossip.

Look at these:

  • "This 19-year-old just raised $4M"

  • "Amazon's secret sauce (leaked)"

  • "Why Zuckerberg is freaking out"

Notice the pattern? Number or name + intrigue + emotion.

The 59-sec takeaway:

Curiosity gaps work. But not the clickbait kind. The kind where you hint at something specific and valuable.

Bad: "You won't believe this marketing trick"
Good: "Morning Brew's $75M subject line formula"

See the difference? One sounds like spam. The other sounds like intel.

How I'd use this:

Template: [Specific person/brand] + [action word] + [surprising detail]

Examples for your biz:

  • "This café owner tripled tips with one sign"

  • "Glossier's $30M Instagram caption trick"

  • "Why Shopify sellers avoid this color"

Write 5, pick the one that makes you want to click.

Pavan

P.S. What's the best subject line you've ever opened? Reply with it. I need ideas.

I could show you their subject lines, but you've got the formula now.
